One of the prime fishing spots to catch walleye, perch, and rainbow trout in Idaho is Oakley Reservoir. The reservoir is home to numerous state-record walleye catches. This reservoir is located south of Burley, close to the City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park. Idaho Fish and Game keeps the 1,000-acre reservoir regularly stocked. Allowable watercraft includes motorboats and paddle boats.
Trout fishing on Oakley is typically at its best during spring into early summer, before the water warms up. Big walleye catches of 13 to 17 inches are common in the summer at various depths. In the fall, yellow perch up to 10 inches are regularly caught in 10-15 feet of water near rocky outcroppings. Other fish found in Oakley Reservoir are bluegill, bullheads, largemouths, largescale suckers, and brook, bull and cutthroat trout. Rainbows and steelheads are regularly stocked. Ice fishing is popular on Oakley, peaking in mid-January, but be sure your vehicle can handle the rough road, which receives little winter maintenance.
Shoreline access to the reservoir is available. Because much of the lake has steep shorelines, anglers do just as well fishing from shore as they do from a boat.
